A Tribute to Strength, Legacy, and Love
Named Sona, the resort honors a woman of immense determination and grace — the first female entrepreneur in her family and a symbol of quiet resilience. As the daughter of Armenian Genocide survivors, her journey began in the 1970s Beirut, Lebanon, at a time when women were expected to remain in the home. Refusing to accept those limits, she launched a small clothing business from a suitcase and built it into an international success.
But her true mission was personal: to ensure her children would receive the education she was denied. Through tireless work and deep love, she made that vision a reality. Her children — Vania, Ara, and Gassia — grew into accomplished professionals: two PhD scientists and a judge. Once her purpose was fulfilled, she closed her business, knowing her work was done. This resort now stands as a testament to the strength, vision, and heart she lived by.
The architecture of Sona Boutique Resort is a reflection of her heritage. Inspired by the traditional Armenian homes of Kharpert — a city in Eastern Turkey from which her parents escaped during the 1915 Armenian Genocide — the design evokes the dignity and beauty of a homeland lost but never forgotten. Kharpert was once a hub of learning and culture, and its spirit is carried into the resort’s details: carved stone, warm wood, and timeless lines.
Inside, a gallery of photographs tells the family’s story. Among them is Asdghig, born in Kharpert in 1900, and Anoush, her first daughter, born just two weeks before the 1915 deportations. Other images capture later generations — Jaklin and Sona, born in Aleppo, Syria — continuing a legacy of endurance and hope.
The resort was envisioned, designed, and built by Viki (Sona’s niece in Armenia) and Gassia (her daughter in the United States), two women carrying forward the dreams of the generations before them. Sona Boutique Resort is not just a place to rest — it’s a space to reflect, reconnect, and honor the shoulders on which we all stand.
